O desenvolvimento motor em crianças de 0 a 18 meses de idade com baixo peso ao nascer é tema de interesse para os estudos da área de saúde, pois será determinante para a evolução gradativa dos padrões neuropsicomotores. O objetivo deste estudo é verificar a existência da relação entre atraso no desenvolvimento motor e baixo peso em crianças de 0 a 18 meses de idade atendidas em Centros de Saúde do município de Jequié (BA). Do ponto de vista da metodologia, trata-se de pesquisa do tipo descritiva com abordagem quantitativa. A amostra foi constituída por 30 crianças, divididas em dois grupos: Grupo A composto por 15 crianças com peso normal; e Grupo B constituído de 15 crianças com baixo peso. O instrumento de avaliação da função motora foi a Escala Motora Infantil de Alberta (AIMS) e a análise dos dados foi realizada por meio de associações das variáveis e sexo apresentadas pormeio de gráficos utilizando o programa GENES. Encontrou-se que a totalidade das crianças do Grupo A apresentou desenvolvimento motor normal enquanto, no grupo B, menos da metade alcançou este desenvolvimento. Com a aplicação do teste do Qui-quadrado não foi encontrada significância estatística entre as variáveis peso e desenvolvimento motor(Qui-quadrado = 7,66). Concluiu-se que o peso normal e o baixo peso leve não tiveram relação com a suspeita ou atraso no desenvolvimento motor, no entanto o baixo peso moderado e grave demonstrou tal relação.
