Abstract
Dans un article publie en 1987, Patrick Coleman remarque la rapidite surprenante avec laquelle la nouvelle quebecoise a evolue depuis le debut des annees 80.1 Il s'agit en effet d'un phenomene indeniable. Dans Le Quebecois et sa litterature, un ouvrage publie en 1984 sous la direction de Rene Dionne, on trouve, dans un appendice intitule Classiques de la litterature quebecoise ou essai de bibliographie fondamentale, une liste subjective de textes canadiens francais qui sont a la fois des ouvrages de travail pour l'enseignement et des oeuvres marquantes de cette histoire litteraire. Sous la rubrique Contes et nouvelles,2 on pourra lire une liste d'une trentaine de textes publies entre 1874 (Contes et recits de Faucher de Saint-Maurice) et 1977 (Ces enfants de ma vie de Gabrielle Roy). Si l'on ajoute a ce fait que le premier conte anonyme canadien, Zelim, avait ete publie le 30 decembre 1778 dans La Gazette litteraire, et qu'un seul recueil de nouvelles ecrites en francais avait paru avant I860,3 nous nous trouvons en effet en presence d'un corpus bien maigre. Or, la situation change radicalement au debut des annees 80.
