Os assistentes sociais (a.s.) tem poucos habitos de se encontrarem, ao contrario do que acontece com outras profissoes. Dai que tivessemos tido a preocupacao e a iniciativa de promover um encontro de diplomados pelo ISSSL em 1981, tentando responder a necessidade sentida de nao perder o contacto com aqueles com quem trabalhamos e convivemos. Apostamos num encontro onde nos pudessemos rever, falar e reflectir um pouco sobre aquilo que, dum modo ou doutro, caracteriza a vida da maioria de nos: a profissionalizacao, a entrada num mundo e engrenagem com uma logica e dinâmicas bastante diferentes daquelas que ate ha pouco nos orientavam na escola. Este processo recheia-se, naturalmente, de dificuldades a que tentamos dar eco no Encontro. O texto seguinte aparece dividido em tres partes: 1. Questoes levantadas no Encontro; 2. Reflexoes a partir do Encontro; 3. Questoes genericas sobre a profissionalizacao. Na base de 2. e 3. esteve um trabalho conjunto dos autores do texto, a partir do que foi dito no Encontro. Este, de certa forma, funcionou como um «brain-storming», depois aproveitado para a feitura de uma reflexao um pouco mais elaborada. Este trabalho e da exlusiva responsabilidade dos seus autores.
