Abstract
L’évaluation de la traduction littéraire peut-elle échapper à la subjectivité du critique? D’une part, le texte littéraire, par essence, ne suscite-t-il pas une infinité de lectures, d’interprétations? D’autre part, le critique, également lecteur, n’est-il pas engagé dans une activité d’interprétation? Sa tâche ne s’en trouve-t-elle pas compromise? Cependant, nous croyons qu’il est possible d’analyser des textes de manière objective tout en incluant les questions esthétiques dans l’analyse : la traduction a ce pouvoir de rendre transparents certains phénomènes linguistiques, stylistiques, qui, autrement, échapperaient à l’analyste. Nous proposons ici une méthode critique (composée de quatre axes d’analyse) qui rend compte de deux phénomènes de la traduction littéraire : la « sensibilité à la littérarité » et la « littérarité en traduction », notion qui recouvre le rendu de la littérarité dans les traductions finales. Ce faisant, nous préciserons la notion d’« aboutissement » de la traduction qui recouvre deux aspects, c’est-à-dire, le terme du processus de la traduction et la réussite textuelle de la traduction.
