Abstract
Cette étude discute de certaines problématiques concernant l’ethnographie et les méthodes de collectes de données. Elle illustre plus particulièrement la relation chercheurs-sujets et cible les peuples autochtones de la Côte nord-ouest du dix-neuvième et du vingtième siècle. L’auteur examine, par des exemples de cas historiques, l’ethnographie émique (le regard porté sur soi) et étique (le regard de l’extérieur) et le relativisme culturel à adopter dans le travail de terrain. On y traite encore des impacts sur les communautés étudiées selon les méthodes choisies pour la collecte des données.
