Abstract
Q에 관한 연구는 지구내부에 대하여 귀중한 정보를 제공하며, 강진동의 영향을 예측하는 데에 있어서 필수적이다. Q값에 관한 여러 연구들이 한반도 남부에서 수행되었으나, 그 연구로부터 얻어진 결과들은 그들이 사용한 방법과 자료에 따라 다양하다. 주파수에 의존하는 S파에 대한 Q값을 두 가지의 다른 방법으로 추정하여 비교하였다. 첫 번째의 방법은 지진기록을 지진원과 전파과정 및 부지효과로 분해하여 Q값을 구하는 방법(미지수 분해법)이며, 두 번째 방법은 coda파에 의하여 S파 진폭을 정규화 하는 방법(coda 정규화법)이다. 동일한 지진자료를 사용하여 두 가지의 다른 방법으로 얻은 결과는 거의 동일한 것으로 나타났다. 근소한 차이는 coda 정규화 과정에 기인하는 것으로 보인다. 진원거리가 100 ㎞ 이내인 지진자료와 100 ㎞ 이상인 지진자료를 가지고 계산한 Q값을 서로 비교하였다. 진앙거리가 먼 범위의 자료에 대한 Q값은 짧은 범위의 자료로부터 얻은 Q값에 비하여 큰 것으로 나타났으며, 이것은 먼 진앙거리를 가진 지진파가 상대적으로 큰 Q값을 가진 심부 지각을 통과함을 시사한다. 일반적으로 기하학적 확장계수 γ는 100 ㎞ 이내의 짧은 거리에서는 1.0, 100 ㎞ 밖에서는 0.5로 가정하고 있다. 100 ㎞를 경계로 γ가 1.0에서 0.5로 바뀐다고 생각하여, Q값에 대한 지수함수식을 주파수(f)의 함수로서 주파수 범위 1.5~25㎐ 내에서 Q = 229.2 f 0.73 과 같이 얻었다. 기하학적 확장 효과를 포함한 한반도 남부에서의 지진파 감쇠는 남부 California보다는 훨씬 작고, Canada 남동부지역보다는 약간 큰 것으로 나타났다.
