Abstract
The arts are one of the privileged expressions of culture and are also the expression of a community’s identity. The Acadian culture of New Brunswick is no exception. In this essay, the author examines the geographical constitution of Acadia to reveal distinct features of what he considers to be three important sectors of social activity: culture, politics, and economy. In light of ongoing activities in the fields of visual arts, literature, music, and filmmaking, it becomes clear that the Acadian regions of the South West, the Acadian peninsula, and the region of Marevie display divergences and concordances that are quite similar in each of these cultural manifestations. Resume Les arts constituent l’une des expressions privilegiees de la culture qui elle-meme se veut l’expression identitaire d’une collectivite. La culture acadienne du Nouveau-Brunswick n’y fait pas exception. Dans cet essai, l’auteur examine la constitution geographique de l’Acadie pour y voir des particularites se rapportant a ce qu’il considere comme les trois grands secteurs de l’activite sociale : soit la culture, la politique et l’economie. En se basant sur l’activite ayant cours dans les arts visuels, la litterature, la musique et le cinema, on se rend compte que les regions acadiennes du sud-est, de la Peninsule acadienne et de la region Marevie offrent des divergences et des concordances assez similaires en ce qui a trait a leur identite culturelle.
