George Plasketes peut tre lu bien des gards comme une reprise du numro galement ddi aux cover songs que ce dernier coordonna en 2005 au sein de la revue scientifique Popular Music and Society 1 . Cette relation s'entend au moins deux niveaux. Tout d'abord, au sens o l'on retrouve, tels quels ou lgrement remanis, certains textes de l'un l'autre. L'introduction de Plasketes pour le numro de Popular Music and Society devient ainsi, dans une version tendue et prsente sous la forme d'un trait sur la reprise, le premier chapitre du livre. L'article de Don Cusic In Defense of Cover Songs se trouve quant lui simplement reproduit, tandis que celui de Christine R. Yano sur les enjeux de la reprise dans la musique populaire japonaise enka est revisit pour en approfondir la thse principale. Ensuite, de manire sans doute plus intressante, il convient de lire ces deux ouvrages selon une lecture strophonique , comme y invite, transpos la lecture universitaire, le concept aux accents intertextuels dvelopp par Deena Weinstein dans son texte conclusif de la version livre, Appreciating Cover Songs : Stereophony . Pour la sociologue, qui l'on doit par ailleurs l'une des premires tudes rvlant l'intrt du phnomne cover dans les popular music studies De la revue au livre, et vice-versa, des thmatiques rcurrentes apparaissent, dont les diffrences de traitement reprsentent autant de variations propres densifier l'paisseur d'un champ de recherche mergent.
