Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

They face specific difficulties in their economic development. Firms in those regions have to tackle a more turbulent institutional environment than their counterparts in continental Europe, which suggests that the management of the relationship with such an environment takes on a great importance in the struggle for survival. We present an empirical study of the strategy of 58 firms in Guadeloupe and discuss how the institutional environment is indeed critical for success. We show that managing the relationship with the central State and its regional components is greatly affected by top managers’ characteristics. In particular, their understanding of the institutional environment is a determinant of success. In conclusion we extend our findings and discuss some implications for the strategic management of firms in transition economies.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
