Résumé Ce texte analyse la question de la participation des parents à l’éducation à la sexualité de leur enfant présentant une déficience intellectuelle (DI) en s’appuyant sur une recension des écrits sur ce sujet. Un premier constat révèle les difficultés des parents à assumer leur rôle d’éducateur à la sexualité. De nombreux parents sont préoccupés par cette question, mais ils ne se considèrent pas suffisamment compétents pour aider leur enfant à assumer une vie sexuelle épanouie. Différentes formes du soutien à la parentalité destinées à les aider à s’engager activement et efficacement dans une démarche d’éducation à la sexualité de leur enfant sont ensuite présentées. Parmi les ressources considérées, une formation des parents est proposée au Canada par les auteurs qui, en s’appuyant sur les données de la littérature, développent une perspective fondée sur une approche positive de soi et de l’enfant, médiatisée par des intervenants professionnels et impliquant parents, enfants et professionnels. Cette approche soutient une perspective holistique de la sexualité et andragogique impliquant d’autres parents. Des recommandations pratiques destinées à favoriser le déroulement de cette expérience de formation parentale sont ensuite formulées.
