Parmi les tests permettant de mesurer la reconnaissance des sons de parole en situation d'écoute compétitive, le test d'écoute dichotique est de plus en plus utilisé y compris chez l'enfant à partir de l'âge de huit ans.Il consiste à délivrer simultanément aux deux oreilles des informations verbales de même nature (substantifs, chiffres ou adjectifs) mais différents, puis de demander au sujet de répéter ce qu'il a entendu dans différentes conditions attentionnelles: attention partagée ou dirigée successivement sur chaque oreille.Ce test permet de mesurer les capacités d'intégration et de séparation binaurale qui sont cruciales pour sélectionner l'information auditive d'intérêt lorsqu'elle est délivrée en présence d'informations concurrentes.L'objectif de cette étude est de préciser les mécanismes sous-jacents à la faiblesse relative des aptitudes dichotiques décrite chez l'enfant dyslexique en se focalisant sur les compétences mises en jeu pour séparer binauralement les informations auditives.Pour ce faire, nous avons comparé les aptitudes dichotiques d'un groupe d'enfants normo-lecteurs et d'un groupe d'enfants dyslexiques appariés en genre, latéralité manuelle et âge chronologique.Les résultats confirment l'existence d'une dégradation des aptitudes dichotiques chez les enfants dyslexiques et montrent que cette dégradation n'est pas oreille-dépendante.Ils montrent également une dégradation des capacités d'attention dirigée et du déplacement de l'attention d'une oreille vers l'autre.Cette étude corrobore l'hypothèse d'une co-morbidité entre les troubles spécifiques d'apprentissage de la lecture et la présence d'un trouble du traitement auditif central.
