Abstract
Este trabalho tem como objetivo contribuir para a compreensão da possível eficácia e/ou dificuldades de implementação das políticas oficiais de multi e interculturalismo no Canadá. Considera-se que os estudos da cultura são um bom ponto de partida para verificar como acontecem esses processos de inclusão/exclusão social, uma vez que a o próprio conceito de interculturalismo pressupõe o compartilhamento de experiências culturais diversificadas. As produções culturais são concebidas, aqui, como processos complexos, que não podem ser dissociados das relações de poder de uma dada sociedade e cuja incidência sobre o público vai além da recepção imediata, para atuar como um dos referenciais simbólicos mais importantes das sociedades contemporâneas. Para cumprir o objetivo proposto, foram analisados os filmes Generation 101, de Claude Godbout; Adoration, de Athom Egoyan; e Heaven on Earth, de Deepa Mehta.Résumé: Cette recherche a le but de contribuer pour la compréhension de l’efficacité et/ ou difficultés d’implémentation des politiques officielles de multiculturalisme et d’interculturalisme au Canada. On considère que les études de la culture sont un bon point de vue pour vérifier comment ces processus d’inclusion/exclusion sociale se réalisent, étant donné que le concept même d’interculturalisme suppose le partage des expériences culturelles diverses. Les productions culturelles sont vues dans cet article comme des processus complexes qui ne peuvent pas être éloignés des rapports de pouvoir dans une certaine société et dont l’effet sur le public est au-delà de la réception immédiate, en devenant des références symboliques importantes dans les sociétés contemporaines. Pour atteindre les objectifs proposés on a analysé les films Génération 101, de Claude Godbout; Adoration, de Athom Egoyan; et Heaven on Earth, de Deepa Mehta.Mots-clés: société canadienne; production culturelle; minorités ethniques.Abstract: This paper’s aim is to contribute on the overall understanding of the possible effectiveness of canadian multi and intercultural public policies related to the visibility and social inclusion of different ethnic groups. The analysis is centered on the role played by the media, particularly cinema. Theoretically, cultural productions are conceived as complex processes that can’t be separated from the power relationships of a given society and their impact on the public goes beyond immediate reception and act as very important symbolic references of contemporary societies. In order to fulfill the proposed goal the following movie pictures were analyzed: Generation 101, from Claude Godbout; Adoration, from Athom Egoyan; and Heaven on Earth from Deepa Mehta.
