Abstract
Kim Thúy et Linda Lê sont toutes deux d’origine vietnamienne, l’une est québécoise et l’autre française. Si les deux auteures ont en commun d’avoir vécu l’expérience singulière des boat people, la représentation de l’exil dans les écrits de chacune diffère considérablement. Dans Ru, Kim Thúy présente l’immigration comme une renaissance, comme la réalisation du « rêve américain », alors que l’exil est dans l’oeuvre de Linda Lê l’expression d’une perte irréparable. Cet article propose d’explorer les différents points de vue sur l’expérience exilique et l’intégration tels qu’on les retrouve dans le premier livre de Kim Thúy, qui semble avoir un parti pris pour le bonheur, et dans quelques textes de Linda Lê, qualifiée de « professeur de désespoir » par Nancy Huston et d’« écrivain méchant » par Simon Harel. Il s’agira en somme de voir comment le récit de l’une rassure, tandis que l’écriture de l’autre déroute par son intransigeance et son refus du conformisme.
