Este art?culo reflexiona sobre las formas en que los cubanos se relacionan con su insularidad pol?tica y simb?lica. Se propone aqu? lo sedentario como un paradigma art?stico sobresaliente, rebatiendo as? las frecuentes celebraciones de la portabilidad de la diaspora. En un intento por reinventar el significado de la geograf?a literaria desde una perspectiva sedentaria, se discute la obra de Jos? Lezama Lima (1910-1976), Reinaldo Arenas (1943-1990) y Ana Mendieta (1948 1985): ?qu? significa en un ?A qu? tipo de actos interpreta tivos se dedica uno/a a fin de permanecer en un lugar? ?C?mo, hablando desde sus respectivas posiciones de confinamiento, exclusi?n y reclusi?n, act?an estos autores en la producci?n de localidad? Tras analizar las definiciones disonantes de localidad que emergen de la obra de Lezama Lima, por un lado, y de Mendieta y Arenas por el otro, la autora especula sobre sus posibles proyecciones pol?ticas. Si acept?ramos que la globalizaci?n, al intensificar el giro desde la interacci?n so cial hacia la estructura simb?lica, produce, entre otras cosas, el sujeto-en-exilio, podr?amos f?cilmente deslizamos del an?lisis del sedentarismo (el emplaza miento corporal) a la met?fora pol?tica: la pol?tica de interacci?n de los sujetos sociales. En semejante contexto, la singularidad de la subversi?n anti-referencial de Lezama Lima, la lucha de Mendieta con su material org?nico y la err?tica invenci?n de su cuerpo por Arenas nos recuerdan la prioridad l?gica y existencial de estar en su sitio m?s que estar fuera de sitio. Una vez nos interesamos por la materialidad del espacio, podemos empezar a pensar, sin alimentar fantas?as tribales, sobre lo global, con su pol?tica de fenomenolog?a y sus insuficiencias inherentes.
