Abstract
Las Conferencias de “ Educacion Medica para el siglo XXI, hacia la equidad en Salud” , vieron su luz a finales de la decada del 2000, como una iniciativa de los educadores cubanos dedicados a la ensenanza y la investigacion en el campo de las ciencias medicas y de la salud publica y conto con la participacion comprometida y entusiasta de muchos otros colegas de America Latina, Estados Unidos, Canada, Europa y Africa. Quedo de manifiesto el mensaje de que las Universidades deben adelantarse a su tiempo y tomar medidas que les garanticen su pertinencia y ubicacion en el epicentro de cada situacion de salud, asi como en la busqueda de las mejores soluciones para enfrentar, con agilidad y efectividad, los graves problemas que hoy enfrentan grandes grupos poblacionales, en busca de salud. El gran reto de la salud a nivel global, en la etapa actual, es alcanzar una cobertura sanitaria universal, esto no es posible lograrlo sin recursos humanos preparados, tanto desde el punto de vista cientifico-tecnico como etico-humanista. Por todo ello las Conferencias de Educacion Medica seguiran su curso, en aras de contribuir a tales propositos.
