Aura Navarro**Objetivo: estudiar la influencia de las traducciones publicadas durante el primer período patriótico en la Gaceta de Caracas (GdC) en la consolidación de la independencia y de la Primera República venezolana.Método: el trabajo que llevamos a cabo estuvo constituido de tres etapas: 1) arqueo del corpus, para identificar y caracterizar las traducciones; 2) análisis comparativo: la comparación de los textos originales (TO) y sus traducciones (TT); y 3) observación del comportamiento de los traductores-redactores de la Gaceta.Resultados: constatamos que, dado que la mayoría de la información traducida en GdC provenía de periódicos provenientes de Estados Unidos y de Inglaterra, el inglés es entonces el idioma más traducido en la GdC.El contenido de las traducciones es principalmente político y éstas son siempre anónimas.Constatamos, además, que en la traducción de la prensa, el resumen y la perífrasis son empleados, pero que la literalidad constituye también una técnica de traducción utilizada de manera frecuente.Sin embargo, en la mitad de las traducciones comparadas la estrategia de traducción empleada es la apropiación.Conclusiones: la traducción en la Gaceta de Caracas contribuyó a la consolidación de la independencia y de la Primera República venezolana, gracias al uso de la estrategia de apropiación de los textos con fines políticos por parte de los traductores.
