SUMMARY _ Field trials to determine the efficiency of conventional bacillus Calmette-Cuerin and isoniazid­ resistant bacillus Calmette-Cuerin, with and without isoniazid chemoprophylaxis from the day of vaccination for an 8-week period, were carried out ~n a population with a high incidence of tuber­ culosis (new' case rate). During the period of observation, bacillus Calmette-Cuerin vaccination reduced the new case rate of tuberculosis to approximately 20 per cent of the amount that occurred among tuberculin nonreactors without vaccination; however, there was no difference in the re­ duction of cases between conventional Montreal bacillus Calmette-Guerin and isoniazid-resistant bacillus Calmette-Cuerin derived from the same strain with or without concomitant isoniazid chemoprophylaxis. Therefore, a potent strain of bacillus Calmette-Cuerin and isoniazid can be given concomitantly without decreasing the protection afforded by conventional bacillus Calmette­ Guerin; thus, vaccination with an isoniazid-resistant bacillus Calmettc-Cuerin is not justified.
