O bjetivo: El proposito de este estudio fue determinar la prevalencia de maloclusiones en la denticion primaria de ninos entre 2 y 5 anos de edad. Materiales y Metodos: Se realizo un estudio epidemiologico, descriptivo, de corte transversal. Un total de 487 ninos entre 2 y 5 anos de edad, fueron seleccionados aleatoriamente de 7 centros de educacion inicial, nacionales, del municipio la Canada de Urdaneta, Estado-Zulia, Venezuela. Una evaluacion clinica realizada por dos examinadores (Kappa inter=0,79 Kappa intra= 0,89 y 0,85) permitio registrar las caracteristicas de la oclusion en sus relaciones intra e interarcada. Resultados: La prevalencia de falta de espacios de primates y crecimiento fue 59,5% y 50% respectivamente y 59,6% de apinamiento. Un 76,6%, de los ninos presento al menos una alteracion en la relacion inter-arcada: resalte aumentado 44%, mordida profunda 31%, relacion canina clase II 24% y la mordida cruzada posterior y la mordida abierta anterior ambos con 12%. Conclusiones: Los resultados de este estudio senalan una alta prevalencia de alteraciones de la oclusion en edades temprana, siendo posible predecir riesgo de maloclusiones en la denticion permanente.
