A presente pesquisa trata-se da analise do indice de Vulnerabilidade Habitacional(IVH) e Infraestrutura e Meio Ambiente (IVIMA) dos setores censitarios que abrangeo bairro Jardim Canada, do municipio de Nova Lima/ MG. Tomou-se comopressuposto teorico o processo de urbanizacao extensiva da metropole sobre o eixosul da Regiao Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte (RMBH). A nossa hipotese e que oindice de vulnerabilidade habitacional e ambiental do bairro Jardim Canada estarelacionado com a exclusao socio-espacial ali existente. Sendo assim, para comporos dados da pesquisa, bem como para o reconhecimento da area estudada, utilizouseda metodologia desenvolvida na Universidade de Mackenzie (SP) de 2007, quevisa identificar os indices de vulnerabilidade de infraestrutura, meio ambiente ehabitacao. Em seguida adotou-se procedimentos de observacao de campo eentrevistas com a populacao residente, trabalhadores e empresarios da regiao. Aofinal da pesquisa, foi possivel observar atraves dos indices do IVH e IVIMAencontrado, que as diferencas existentes no bairro em termos de infraestrutura ehabitacao e resultado do processo de urbanizacao extensiva da metropole,confirmando o carater seletivo em que se da essa modernizacao tecnologica, naoatingindo todas as classes sociais. O que consequentemente deixou essa populacao expostas a diversos riscos que podem ser identificados ate hoje.
