Abstract
A presente pesquisa trata-se da análise do índice de Vulnerabilidade Habitacional(IVH) e Infraestrutura e Meio Ambiente (IVIMA) dos setores censitários que abrangeo bairro Jardim Canadá, do município de Nova Lima/ MG. Tomou-se comopressuposto teórico o processo de urbanização extensiva da metrópole sobre o eixosul da Região Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte (RMBH). A nossa hipótese é que oíndice de vulnerabilidade habitacional e ambiental do bairro Jardim Canadá estárelacionado com à exclusão sócio-espacial ali existente. Sendo assim, para comporos dados da pesquisa, bem como para o reconhecimento da área estudada, utilizouseda metodologia desenvolvida na Universidade de Mackenzie (SP) de 2007, quevisa identificar os índices de vulnerabilidade de infraestrutura, meio ambiente ehabitação. Em seguida adotou-se procedimentos de observação de campo eentrevistas com a população residente, trabalhadores e empresários da região. Aofinal da pesquisa, foi possível observar através dos índices do IVH e IVIMAencontrado, que as diferenças existentes no bairro em termos de infraestrutura ehabitação é resultado do processo de urbanização extensiva da metrópole,confirmando o caráter seletivo em que se dá essa modernização tecnológica, nãoatingindo todas as classes sociais. O que consequentemente deixou essa população expostas a diversos riscos que podem ser identificados até hoje.
