Educational Challenges in a Multicultural Society: The Case of Israel

Abstract
The academic world has not yet determined its attitude to multidisciplinary, which leads to a lack of institutionalization and regulation of multidisciplinary in research and in curricular development. The fashion in the 1990s has become a fact, yet we are stilled faced with the challenge: Academic institutions offer their students multidisciplinary programs, considered to be less prestigious, and at the same time the institutions have a controversial attitude to multidisciplinary research, and specifically scholars working in diverse areas of knowledge. The world outside the academe has already decided that multidisciplinary is the need of the hour; the academe itself is still trying to hold on to both ends of the rope. Key words : Challenges; Multicultural society; Higher education Resume Le monde universitaire n’a pas encore determine son attitude envers multidisciplinaire, ce qui conduit a un manque d’institutionnalisation et la reglementation des pluridisciplinaire dans la recherche et au developpement curriculaire. La mode dans les annees 1990 est devenue une realite, pourtant, nous sommes calmes relever le defi: Les etablissements d'enseignement offrent a leurs etudiants des programmes multidisciplinaires, consideres comme moins prestigieux, et en meme temps les institutions ont une attitude controversee a la recherche multidisciplinaire, et plus particulierement chercheurs travaillant dans divers domaines de la connaissance. Le monde exterieur du monde universitaire a deja decide que multidisciplinaire est la necessite de l'heure, le milieu universitaire lui-meme est encore en essayant de tenir aux deux extremites de la corde.
