Abstract
Este art?culo examina Los hero?smos, un compendio de art?culos escritos por Horacio Quiroga en la d?cada de los veinte del siglo XX y recientemente editados en forma de libro. Los hero?smos elucida el concepto singular del h?roe abyecto que predomina en la ficci?n de Quiroga junto con el rechazo de toda posibilidad de un hero?smo femenino. Este art?culo tambi?n ilumina la vinculaci?n rec?ndita entre la biograf?a de Quiroga y su obra. Analizando estas fuentes en conjunci?n con las teor?as contempor?neas sobre lo abyecto (Kristeva), el concepto de naci?n (Bhabha) y la modernidad latinoamericana de la ?poca, este trabajo concluye que el h?roe quiroguiano resulta de h b?squeda de una identidad nacional reno vada. El nacionalismo de Quiroga, por lo tanto, es forzosamente abyecto, recha zando la vida burguesa, la cual se vincula con lo femenino, a la vez que enaltece un aventurerismo masculino asociado con el imperialismo angloamericano, ana tema a la realidad cultural y pol?tica rioplatense. Entre las cualidades heroicas m?s glorificadas por Quiroga se encuentran el concepto de integridad art?stica, la ausencia de inter?s y la persecuci?n intransigente de los objetivos, junto con la degradaci?n y al aislamiento personal y el descuido a veces perverso de la familia, en especial de la c?nyuge.
