Abstract
Resume Introduction : Il est necessaire de certifier les equipements utilises pour la preparation sterile de medicaments. L’Ordre des pharmaciens du Quebec a recemment publie ses standards de pratique. Le pharmacien doit s’assurer que les preparations steriles et non steriles sont effectuees conformement aux normes etablies. Problematique : Le pharmacien oeuvrant en milieu hospitalier n’est pas expose aux amenagements et aux bonnes pratiques de preparations steriles et non steriles pour superviser la certification de ses installations. L’objectif principal de cet article consiste a expliquer le processus de certification des salles et des equipements utilises en pharmacie. Resolution de la problematique : Compte tenu de ce cadre normatif, nous avons developpe, avec un certificateur externe, un rapport de performance et de certification des installations et des controles environnementaux pour les preparations magistrales steriles au CHU Sainte-Justine. Avant d’amorcer ces travaux, nous nous sommes assures de la qualification du certificateur. Le rapport de certification developpe comprend sept criteres de conformite et porte sur l’ensemble des zones et enceintes de preparation consacrees a la preparation sterile et non sterile de medicaments ou de medicaments dangereux. Conclusion : De facon generale, nos installations sont conformes aux normes. Pour repondre au projet de norme de l’Ordre des pharmaciens du Quebec, la certification des zones de preparation sera effectuee tous les six mois plutot qu’annuellement. Les pharmaciens doivent comprendre les obligations relatives a la certification des salles et des enceintes de preparation en pharmacie. Abstract Introduction: It is necessary to certify the equipment used for the preparation of sterile products. The Ordre des pharmaciens du Quebec has recently published its standards of practice. The pharmacist must ensure that the preparation of sterile and nonsterile products is in compliance with established standards. Problem: The pharmacist working in a hospital environment has little experience with the space arrangements and best practices of sterile and non-sterile product preparation enabling him or to better supervise the certification process. The main objective of this article is to explain the certification process of the rooms and equipment used in pharmacy. Problem resolution: Considering this normative framework, at the CHU Sainte-Justine we developed along with an external certifying agent a performance and certification report of the premises and environmental controls for compounded sterile products. Prior to starting these tasks, we verified the qualifications of the certifying agent. The certification report consists of seven compliance criteria and deals with all zones and fume hoods dedicated to the preparation of sterile and non sterile drugs and for hazardous drugs. Conclusion: In general, our premises comply with standards. In response to the Ordre des pharmaciens du Quebec project on standards, the certification of zones of preparation will be done every six months instead of annually. Pharmacists should understand the duties related to the certification of rooms and fume hoods in pharmacy.
