Dans cette priode informatique de l'Internet et du courrier lectronique, des bases de donnes transnationales et du commerce lectronique, on peut constater une peur grandissante que les renseignements personnels soient vendus aux plus offrants et que la confidentialit soit constamment rode.Le gouvernement canadien a entendu et rpondu ses citoyens ainsi qu' la communaut internationale qui demandait des normes plus serres.La Loi sur les renseignements personnels de 2000 (projet de loi C-6) met en place les conditions auxquelles les compagnies prives et les individus doivent se conformer pour protger les informations personnelles.Cependant, les dfenseurs de la confidentialit ont fait valoir que des mesures plus fortes encore taient ncessaires.Cet article examine l'impact de la Loi sur les renseignements personnels sur les centres d'archives.En effet, afin de protger la confidentialit et les renseignements personnels, la lgislation et les dfenseurs de la confidentialit semblent prts sacrifier divers aspects de la culture et de l'histoire.Les archivistes doivent s'assurer que cela ne se produira pas et trouver un quilibre entre les atteintes la confidentialit et le besoin des Canadiens de se connatre, de mme que leur pass et leur histoire collective.
