La sémiostylistique comparée née à la fin des années 80 a ouvert des voies de recherche significatives du point de vue de l’interdisciplinarité dans le cadre des sciences humaines et des sciences du langage. Née de la confluence des courants de recherche des années 70, elle a permis de mettre en rapport des domaines auparavant cloisonnés et elle a également permis des études diachroniques et synchroniques d’envergure sur l’esthétique considérée d’un point de vue phénoménologique. Parallèlement, ou presque, se sont développées les études de traductologie dans des disciplines en apparence fort éloignées des centres d’intérêt de la sémiostylistique comparée où étaient étudiés principalement des styles, des formes esthétiques, des signes divers mais pas de phénomènes de transferts linguistiques et culturels. Dans le courant des années 90, les travaux de recherche en sémiostylistique comparée ont commencé à considérer les apports de la traductologie et particulièrement les phénomènes de transferts culturel, social, idéologique, psychologique et esthétique. La sémiostylistique comparée et la traductologie sont apparemment deux disciplines proches qui ont été amenées à se rencontrer et le seront peut-être à nouveau dans leur avenir réciproque.
