Abstract
À partir de son projet de traduire Richard III de Shakespeare, projet qui n'a pas abouti, Normand Chaurette utilise les personnages féminins du dramaturge anglais pour écrire une nouvelle pièce de théâtre, soit Les reines. L'emploi de la traduction comme processus créateur relativisant le paradigme identitaire classique du Même et de l'Autre radicalise les concepts d'origine et d'appartenance territoriale et langagière pour souligner un exil féminin ressenti comme étant intérieur à l'espace et à la langue. Le « rapatriement » des personnages chaurettiens à la langue et au territoire anglais par Linda Gaboriau dans sa traduction, The Queens, permet de vérifier le bien-fondé de cette hypothèse. Traduction d'une pièce originale née elle-même d'une traduction, la version en langue anglaise réinvente les altérités élaborées dans le texte du dramaturge québécois.
