Résumé La reconnaissance au travail représente un enjeu lié tant à la gestion des organisations qu’aux besoins fondamentaux des individus. Bien qu’elle soit de plus en plus discutée dans l’univers de la sociologie et de la psychologie des organisations, cette notion complexe demeure imprécise dans le monde de la gestion. Qu’est-ce que la reconnaissance au travail? Quelles en sont les limites et les nuances conceptuelles? Comment se traduit l’acte de reconnaître? Telles sont les questions centrales auxquelles cet article répond. D’abord, il met en lumière l’ampleur des besoins de reconnaissance aujourd’hui exprimés par les individus et brosse le portrait du contexte social et organisationnel entourant la question. On y présente les approches, les pratiques et les sources de reconnaissance au travail. Quatre approches conceptuelles de la reconnaissance sont analysées : la perspective éthique, la conception humaniste et existentielle, l’école de la psychodynamique du travail et l’approche comportementaliste. Cette analyse révèle que la reconnaissance se concrétise à travers certaines pratiques. Par ailleurs, le champ de la reconnaissance se caractérise par la présence de cinq types d’interactions, qui s’établissent sur les plans organisationnel, vertical, horizontal, externe et social.
