Abstract

Muon spin relaxation $(\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{SR})$ has been used to study the ferromagnet to spin glass crossover in $a\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{90\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Ru}}_{x}{\mathrm{Zr}}_{10}.$ We find clear evidence of two magnetic transitions in both the dynamic and static behavior of the muon polarization decay: a ferromagnetic phase transition at ${T}_{c},$ followed by transverse spin freezing at ${T}_{\mathrm{xy}}.$ Comparison with earlier M\"ossbauer data shows that the break in ${B}_{\mathrm{hf}}(T)$ is indeed due to transverse spin freezing, and that both M\"ossbauer spectroscopy and $\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{SR}$ yield the same values for ${T}_{\mathrm{xy}}.$
