Il est reconnu que les infirmières doivent régulièrement adapter leur pratique clinique en regard des nouvelles percées scientifiques. Cependant, les changements de pratique possibles par la mise en place de projets cliniques peuvent parfois être longs et difficiles à concrétiser dans les milieux de soins, et ce, compte tenu par exemple du contexte de soins, du profil de la clientèle, de l’organisation des soins et du travail, etc. Une démarche algorithmique (i.e., séquence d’actions) visant à soutenir les infirmières dans l’évaluation de nouveaux projets d’interventions infirmières, incluant les autres membres de l’équipe interdisciplinaire, les chercheurs, ainsi que les patients et leurs proches, a été développée. Cet algorithme considère l’environnement clinique dans lequel s’opérationnalisera le projet d’interventions infirmières et se déroule en cinq étapes soit : 1) l’identification et la description d’un problème de soins à résoudre ou d’une pratique à améliorer ; 2) le développement ou l’adaptation d’une intervention infirmière appropriée ; 3) le choix d’un devis d’évaluation pour cette intervention infirmière ; 4) le pilotage (mise à l’essai) de l’intervention puis ; 5) l’implantation et le retour réflexif sur la démarche.
