Du point de vue interne, les chercheurs étudient la traduction en tant que processus cognitif dont la complexité dépasse la production d’un texte concret. Cela dit, il n’est pas sans intérêt tenir compte du point de vue externe représenté par les usagers des traductions. L’utilité de cette information est très pertinente non seulement pour un meilleur accomplissement de l’activité traductive, mais aussi parce qu’elle nous offre la possibilité d’intervenir dans une réalité qui ne coïncide pas tout à fait avec la pratique professionnelle des traducteurs. Dans cet article, nous avons commencé par un parcours théorique à propos des quelques concepts clés de la traductologie contemporaine. Puis nous avons mis en rapport les avancées théoriques des études descriptives et cognitives sur la traduction, avec les résultats d’une étude empirique que nous avons menée auprès d’un groupe d’usagers des traductions spécialisées qui ont porté des jugements de valeur sur un ensemble des traductions. Nous avons ensuite vu comment les différences entre un point de vue interne et externe sur la traduction persistent, avant de terminer par l’énoncé de conclusions utiles visant à rendre compte de cette différence et à la réduire dans la mesure du possible.
