Abstract
La périnatalité québécoise a vécu de nombreuses et profondes mutations au cours des trente dernières années. Façonnée par divers mouvements sociaux et féministes, jalonnée de politiques et programmes sectoriels, l’heure est actuellement au bilan, à la reconduction ou à l’identification de nouveaux objectifs. La particularité du Québec réside dans le fait que l’élaboration de ces diverses politiques et programmes a été fortement imprégnée des valeurs et des revendications des mouvements d’humanisation de la naissance au début des années 80, alors que les taux d’interventions obstétricales sont alarmants et que des problèmes sociosanitaires persistent. Les colloques «Accoucher ou se faire accoucher» de 1980 alimenteront la dynamique de la périnatalité au Québec dans les années qui suivent. La vague d’humanisation se répand dans les milieux institutionnels de la santé. La légalisation de la profession de sagefemme figure parmi les faits marquants de cette époque. L’objectif de cet article est de retracer l’évolution de la périnatalité au cours des trente dernières années, de décrire brièvement et de situer ses principaux cadres structurants, en soulignant le contexte dans lequel ils ont été planifiés.
