Este artículo presenta un enfoque teórico-metodológico para el estudio de las significaciones políticas. Se apunta a contribuir a la reflexión acerca del papel del discurso presidencial en la construcción de una „hegemonía ideológica‰ y a aportar resultados empíricos sobre la palabra política en la Argentina. En la perspectiva de este trabajo, el análisis de las frecuencias léxicas constituye una puerta de acceso a la producción de significaciones, pues permite observar regularidades, desvíos y correlaciones en la manera en que las palabras y los enunciados se distribuyen en el flujo discursivo. En la primera sección del artículo, se examinan algunos fundamentos teóricos y metodológicos del estudio del discurso presidencial. En la segunda sección, se describe el enfoque „sistemático y extensivo‰ para el análisis textual, utilizando como ejemplo un conjunto de discursos presidenciales provenientes de varios países de América latina. En la tercera sección, se efectúa un análisis informático del lenguaje del actual presidente argentino, Néstor Kirchner.
