Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

AbstractThe laminar unsteady periodic flow motion found in the wake of a rotationally oscillating circular cylinder is investigated numerically at a Reynolds number of 855 over a wide range of oscillation amplitude and frequency ratio. The governing Navier–Stokes equations are integrated to determine the flow field structure for large values of the time using an accurate spectral-finite difference method, but with the boundary vorticity calculated using global vorticity conditions rather than local finite-difference approximations. The lock-on phenomenon has been predicted and its effect on the flow hydrodynamics has been determined. The numerical scheme is verified by applying it to the special case of a steadily rotating cylinder (no forced oscillations) and good qualitative agreements are found. Keywords: UnsteadyViscousIncomprehensibleCylinderLock-onVortex-formationFluid forcesForced rotational oscillations AcknowledgementsThe support of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada is gratefully acknowledged.Notes†Present Address: Department of Mathematical Sciences, United Arab Emirates University, Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates.Additional informationNotes on contributorsQasem M. Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
