Cet article porte sur une traduction très peu connue des Institutes de Justinien 1er qui a été réalisée en France au xiiie siècle par Richard d’Annebaut. Il débute en situant l’auteur de cette traduction, puis il s’intéresse au prologue et à l’épilogue probablement rédigés par le traducteur lui-même afin d’établir pourquoi et pour qui il a traduit et, finalement il tente de circonscrire les divers facteurs qui ont pu participer à la versification de cet écrit juridique qui est la seule traduction versifiée connue d’un des textes du Corpus Iuris Civilis pour les xiiie et xive siècles français.
