Abstract

Au cours des dernières années, au Québec comme ailleurs dans le monde, l’éthique de la recherche a suscité de nombreuses critiques. L’article rappelle cet état de fait, se demande comment l’expliquer et trouve un élément de réponse dans l’angle limité selon lequel nous concevons cette éthique. Pour développer ce point de vue, le texte examine d’abord les rapports tendus qui ont eu et ont encore cours entre cette éthique et la pratique de la science. Puis, l’article présente la richesse de la démarche de dialogue entre les citoyens et les scientifiques qui a été menée durant la décennie 1970 pour concevoir une recherche respectueuse des personnes qui y participaient. Cette visée sociale ne s’est malheureusement pas poursuivie au-delà des années 1980. Enfin, le texte met en évidence la responsabilité des institutions scientifiques pour qu’elles renouent avec cette approche et participent ainsi à transformer notre vision de l’éthique de la recherche.
