Abstract
This review provides an overview of Kathi Kern's reading of 125 Elizabeth Cady Stanton's religious and feminist thought as responses to her contemporary political culture. Looking at recent views of Stanton's seemingly disparate identities—including theologian, politician, and racist—Kern contends that splintering Stanton's work among academic disciplines and reading her writing through the lens of twenty-first-century thinking about race and sexuality gain us very little. Kern argues instead that Stanton's quest for religious liberty connects those partial and seemingly disparate identities.
