Why this work is in the frame

A frame that forgets how it found something cannot be audited. These are the routes that admitted this work.

affAt least one author lists a Canadian institution in the pinned OpenAlex snapshot.
aboutThe title or abstract carries a Canadian signal from the geographic lexicon.

Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

RéSUMé This article summarizes but a segment of long term ongoing research on the phonological system of French from Quebec. The particular point discussed here concerns the nasal vowels, namely / /, / /, / / and / /. In order to assess the present day situation concerning these phonemes, a detailed phonological and phonetical survey (generating 4,240 vowels) was conducted on a population of 40 students attending Laval University in Quebec City. Four different kinds of analyses were conducted : a study of the functional load of the phonemes on the basis of their occurrences in free speaking interviews ; an examination of the relationship between speaker behaviour and speaker attitude ; a statistical analysis, using a variationist model, establishing the relative weight of 13 functional and structural variables on the catalysis of particular changes (diphthongization, closure, and fronting) occurring in this vocalic sub-system ; and finally, an acoustic description of the main phonetic variants of these phonemes of Quebec French, principally in terms of their duration and formantic structure.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
