The quest for funding: it is a constantconcern, often a source of unease.This is a unique aspect of academiclife - we have the opportunity, and theburden, of funding our own researchprograms. In the US, some researchersraise all or part of their own salaries, aswell as those of their coworkers. Thestress can be compounded by the feelingof not knowing how reviewersmight perceive a proposal, or notknowing how to directly pitch thevalue of one’s proposed research tothe goals of a funding program or currenttrends.
