La localisation est une activité fondamentalement langagière et les traducteurs comme les terminologues sont les spécialistes traditionnels de cette adaptation culturelle et linguistique. Le rôle primordial de la terminologie dans l’activité localisatrice est souligné. Les connaissances nécessaires à l’exercice de la localisation sont décrites et situées au niveau de l’enseignement universitaire. Un tour d’horizon des formations en localisation offertes dans le monde conclut à la présence de deux modèles – dont l’un est critiquable –, alors que d’autres façons de faire pourraient être envisagées. Enfin, les conditions requises pour l’enseignement de la localisation à l’université sont décrites.
