Abstract
In den letzten Jahrzehnten verging kein Jahr ohne eine neue Infektionskrankheit. Im November 2002 begann die vorerst aktuellste kapitale Überraschung in der an Hongkong angrenzenden südchinesischen, subtropischen und eng besiedelten Provinz Guandong ( = Canton). Dort traten neuartige atypische Pneumonien auf, die sich schnell verbreiteten [ 1 ] [ 2 ]. Der erste Ausbruch verlief zunächst unbeachtet von der Weltöffentlichkeit. Ein älterer chinesischer Nephrologe, der in Guandong Patienten behandelt hatte, brachte Anfang März 2003 die Erkrankung zu einer Familienfeier nach Hongkong. Hiervon ging eine beachtliche Epidemie aus, die sich binnen eines Monats auf mehrere Staaten ausbreitete. Hongkong, Singapur, Hanoi, und Toronto sowie China, sind massiv betroffen. An den ersten deutschen Importfällen im März 2003 in Frankfurt/M wurden wichtige klinische und virologische Erkenntnisse erarbeitet [ 5 ]. Trotz beschwichtigender Worte und z. T. drakonischer Isolierungsmaßnahmen ist die Erkrankung bereits außer Kontrolle. Es würde an ein Wunder grenzen, wenn sie, so schnell wie sie gekommen ist, wieder verschwände, oder wenn sie sich gar durch Isolierungsmaßnahmen eliminieren ließe. Wir müssen mit einer neuen gefährlichen Infektionskrankheit leben, die adäquat behandelt, überwacht und bekämpft werden muss. Selbst wenn sie nach mehreren Humanpassagen ihre Infektiosität verliert und erlöscht, bleibt das Risiko eines erneuten Auftretens aus einem noch bislang unbekannten Tierreservoir.
