Abstract
Le présent article présente la manière dont le William Osler Health System (Osler) a réussi à améliorer la qualité des soins aux patients qui représentent un défi sur le plan clinique grâce à une technologie de pointe associée à un travail d'équipe interprofessionnel et intermanagérial en milieu aigu. L'apnée obstructive du sommeil, un trouble respiratoire causé par l'obstruction des voies respiratoires supérieures, accroît le risque de complications après l'anesthésie. Même si à Osler, une première stratégie de surveillance postopératoire conçue pour les patients atteints d'apnée obstructive du sommeil assurait la sécurité des patients, elle s'associait à des problèmes opérationnels qui ont justifié une réorganisation. Des intervenants interpellés par la situation à tous les échelons ont contribué à l'élaboration et à la mise en œuvre d'une nouvelle approche thérapeutique axée sur la surveillance à distance de la saturométrie, qu'ils ont intégrée aux normes de soins. Osler a préparé une étude de cas pour partager son expérience avec d'autres hôpitaux et systèmes de santé qui possèdent déjà un tel programme ou envisagent d'en adopter un.
