Abstract
À travers le destin de sa narratrice Nguyễn An Tịnh, une rescapée d'un boat-people, Kim Thúy, première écrivaine québécoise d'origine vietnamienne, décrit le parcours difficile des réfugiés de la mer qui, comme elle, ont été forcés de quitter leur terre natale pour venir s'installer au Québec. Loin d'être un récit linéaire, Ru (2009) s'impose comme un roman autobiographique où se succèdent et s'entrecroisent des fragments narratifs portant sur un lieu, une personne, une scène. Dans notre analyse, il s'agira d'examiner la façon dont Kim Thúy construit son texte à travers un système d'oscillations entre deux espaces, un « Ici » et un « Là-bas », et deux types de souvenirs, des images de femmes vietnamiennes et des portraits brossés de bienfaitrices québécoises. Dans un premier temps, nous montrerons que la narratrice, Nguyễn An Tịnh, fait appel à sa mémoire pour revenir sur ce là-bas douloureux rempli d'images traumatiques du départ brutal du pays natal et d'anecdotes sur le rapport difficile entre elle et sa mère. Dans un deuxième temps, nous montrerons comment An Tịnh construit sa nouvelle identité au Québec, notamment par une prise de contact rapide avec l'autre — un visage inconnu ou familier — qui va être fondamentale pour sa reconstruction personnelle.
