Abstract
Cet article recense les publications entre 1970 et 2009 portant sur le lien entre le fonctionnement sexuel et conjugal, l’anxiété et la dépression. Le lien entre le fonctionnement conjugal et sexuel est bien connu. Le fonctionnement conjugal est relié au dysfonctionnement sexuel comme la baisse du désir sexuel. Le fonctionnement sexuel est associé à la satisfaction conjugale. Le rôle du fonctionnement sexuel et conjugal fut aussi étudié en relation avec la détresse psychologique. Le fonctionnement conjugal satisfaisant est un facteur de protection contre le développement de la détresse psychologique mais est aussi un facteur relié à la dépression et l’anxiété. La relation entre la détresse conjugale et la dépression est particulièrement forte. Des études empiriques indiquent que le traitement conjugal peut non seulement améliorer le fonctionnement conjugal mais peut aussi réduire les symptômes de détresse psychologique. Lorsque les symptômes de dépression sont associés à la détresse conjugale, les recherches indiquent que la thérapie conjugale peut être un des premiers traitements à envisager pour réduire à la fois la détresse conjugale et psychologique.
