Description. La pratique communautaire interpelle particulièrement les ergothérapeutes dans leur rôle d'éducateur à la santé, les incitant à déployer des stratégies d'intervention à caractère préventif auprès de leurs clients. Ce type de pratique offre également un terrain propice à l'implantation de stratégies de prévention et de promotion de la santé à l'échelle de la communauté. But. Le présent article décrit quelques-unes des théories utilisées dans les champs de la santé publique et de la promotion de la santé pour expliquer les changements de comportements liés à la santé. Il vise également à mettre en évidence leur potentiel pour la pratique communautaire en ergothérapie. Les théories présentées ici, soit le modèle des croyances relatives à la santé, la théorie sociale cognitive, la théorie de l'action raisonnée et la théorie du comportement planifié, ont été largement utilisées pour l'analyse et l'intervention au regard des comportements liés à la santé. Conséquences pour la pratique. Puisque ces théories mettent de l'avant un ensemble de facteurs influençant les comportements liés à la santé, leur utilisation par les ergothérapeutes pourrait contribuer à améliorer l'efficacité de leurs interventions éducatives, en favorisant chez leur clientèle une observance optimale des recommandations en matière de prévention et de promotion de la santé.
