Sir: We read with interest Dr. Basta’s article on the use of a V-Y chondromucosal flap for the correction of secondary cleft nasal deformities.1 Probably because of its title and its age, the authors did not identify and acknowledge the article “Some Nasal Tip Deformities Due to Alar Cartilage Abnormalities” published in 1954 in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by John Potter, outlining the use of this very useful technique for the correction of the “unilateral flattened, distorted nostril in repaired hare lip cases,” in an article on the treatment of several nasal tip deformities associated with cleft lips.2 We have been using this technique for the past 15 years with very good results in both unilateral and bilateral secondary cleft nose deformities.
