La sécurité culturelle est un concept qui prend de plus en plus d’importance dans les écrits scientifiques en lien avec la dimension culturelle des soins. La difficulté à en saisir le sens et les implications pour la recherche, la formation et la pratique est fréquemment soulevée par les auteurs. Une analyse du concept inspirée de la méthode évolutionniste de Rodgers a été réalisée afin de mieux saisir sa signification et son utilité pour les différents domaines en sciences infirmières. Une revue systématique de la littérature fut effectuée dans les banques de données CINAHL, PsycINFO, MEDLINE, EMBASE, ERIC et Sociological Abstracts afin de repérer les écrits publiés entre 1988 et 2012 et comportant l’expression « cultural safety ». L’analyse des 68 documents recensés a permis d’identifier les attributs, les antécédents et les conséquences de la sécurité culturelle et de retracer son évolution à travers les différents contextes socioculturels et politiques et domaines d’application. Les enjeux relatifs à la définition et à l’opérationnalisation du concept de même que la possibilité de l’exporter hors de son contexte d’émergence sont discutés. Le concept de sécurité culturelle devra être développé et intégré dans un contexte théorique afin d’atteindre une clarté conceptuelle et de faciliter son opérationnalisation.
