Abstract
Au milieu des partitions importantes que Boulez compose en 1946 ( Première Sonate , Sonatine , Visage nuptial ) se trouve une petite page, Variations-rondeau , officiellement sa première partition pianistique après le reniement des Notations de 1945. Cette courte pièce sera, en 1948, intégrée à la Deuxième sonate , dont elle constitue désormais le scherzo. Entre-temps, le langage de Boulez a fortement évolué, d’une esthétique jolivesque et d’un système d’écriture schönbergien, vers une rigueur wébernienne et varésienne. Entre 1947 et 1952, le compositeur va donc considérablement corriger ses œuvres, soit par une série d’épurations stylistiques, soit par une réécriture rythmique dans la continuité des réflexions de Messiaen, et qu’il développe lui-même dans son article « Propositions » en 1948. Variations-rondeau est un parfait exemple qui permet la mise en évidence de cette évolution du langage de Boulez, et des différentes phases de corrections entre les compositions de 1946 et les partitions éditées de 1950. Elle engage, enfin, le long processus à venir chez Boulez de la remise continuelle sur le métier des partitions anciennes.
