Comme en témoignent les travaux de sociologie médicale et les préoccupations des professionnels de santé, la standardisation des pratiques de la médecine constitue la pierre angulaire de nombreuses réflexions théoriques et utilitaires autour de la production de l’objectivité scientifique. Les analyses rencontrées jusqu’à maintenant accordent une place privilégiée aux conditions d’établissement des régimes innovants de coordination médicale sur une grande échelle spatiale. De récents travaux mettent en exergue la construction des standards et les effets concrets de leurs applications sur la coordination des pratiques médicales elles-mêmes. Cependant, suivant ce schéma, le maintien des pratiques standardisées dans le temps est supposée acquise. L’attention porte principalement sur les démonstrations visibles de la standardisation, telles qu’elles se manifestent sur une scène médicale étroitement définie. Il s’agit donc de modèles qui s’appuient sur la finalisation de la standardisation obtenue et non pas sur son amorçage. En partant d’un double terrain empirique, l’interrogation porte sur la pérennisation d’une objectivité médicaloadministrative naissante. Il s’agit de présenter un style de standardisation. Dès lors, cette étude est un plaidoyer pour le développement d’une démarche pragmatique basée sur la genèse des standards afin de retracer les multiples formes innovantes de standardisation des pratiques sans nécessairement présupposer de l’importance du contexte de découverte ou des propriétés inhérentes aux objets faisant l’objet d’une standardisation.
