Abstract
This essay is a reflection on three topics that are different but interrelated. Firstly, it deals with the bicentennial commemorations, with some of the implications of every commemoration and, mainly, with what it is exactly that we are commemorating in Spain and Latin America. Secondly, this essay establishes the relation between bicentennial commemorations and liberalism, and considers the reasons why «el liberalismo hispanico» will play an important role in these commemorations.
