La transition vers la recherche participative et vers un plus grand contrôle des peuples autochtones sur les orientations et la réalisation des travaux de recherche a amené les agences canadiennes de financement de la recherche à intégrer un chapitre consacré à la recherche avec les peuples autochtones à leur Énoncé de politique des trois conseils : éthique de la recherche avec des êtres humains. Nous résumons ici les propos des participants à deux séminaires sur l’éthique de la recherche avec les Peuples autochtones tenus en 2009 et en 2011 à l’Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, afin de déterminer comment les principes de respect des personnes, de préoccupation pour le bien-être et de justice devraient être appliqués concrètement, sur le terrain. À l’apparent paradoxe selon lequel il y aurait à la fois trop et pas assez de recherches avec les Peuples autochtones nous opposons un constat de manque de recherches pertinentes, du point de vue autochtone.
