Abstract
T is only during the last couple of years that the family Gentianaceae I has attracted the attention of cytologists. But in this short time it has been found to contain a wealth of problems concerning almost everything of interest to cytotaxonomists. The family is considered a very old one, and its approximately 800 species have a world-wide distribution, from the Arctic to tropical climates as well as from the highest mountains to the lowlands and sea shores.
